It was a beautiful day as we gathered at First Transit to begin the Poker Run. We bought raffle tickets (some great prizes) and lunches-to-go before the 11am start.

The route was scenic and took vehicles past places of interest in new and old Las Vegas. We saw the Extreme Home Makeover house, Blindconnect’s office, the Springs Preserve, the Regional Transportation Commission headquarters and some of their transit sites, the former homes of Michael Jackson and Ted Binion, the Neon and Boneyard Museum, and the pig farm! Participants commented that they saw things they never had seen before!

One checkpoint was on the Paratransit 1400 bus and another on the fixed route Deuce. We wanted participants to get the feel of public transit.

Winners of the Poker Run were Walt with a straight, king high; Vickie with a straight 8 high, and Jim with 3 4s. Congratulations!

Thanks to First Transit (Valerie, Cathy, Ping) for all their support of this activity. And thanks, too, to Veolia Transportation who assisted in many ways. Kudos to our many volunteers and to those who participated in the Poker Run or through buying raffle tickets.

This is an annual fundraiser to support the Adjustment to Blindness programs and Angela’s House. Monies are used to provide services to people who are blind and visually impaired to adapt to the life changes caused by vision loss.
